Player Analysis – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Who is he?

Name: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Age: 06/18/1989 (31 years old)
Rookie Season / Team: 2008 / Dijon (on loan from AC Milan)
Nationality: Gabon
International Caps (Goals): 63 (25 goals)
Position: Striker / Wide Forward
Current Team / League: Arsenal / English Premier League

Aubameyang began his career at AC Milan, graduating from the Youth setup and standing out in the inaugural Champions Youth Cup, where he scored seven goals in six matches. Following this, Milan loaned him out to Dijon for the 2008/09 season, with the intention of him gaining first team experience. During his time at Dijon, he made 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals overall.

The following seasons saw him loaned out to other teams in the French First Division. These loans included stints at Lille and Monaco. In 2010, he completed a transfer to St. Etienne without making a single senior appearance for AC Milan.

It was not until his move to Borussia Dortmund when Aubameyang made a name for himself. He was part of a setup that included Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. He was prolific during his five seasons at Borussia Dortmund, scoring 141 goals in 213 senior appearances. Such form led him to join English Premier League side Arsenal for a reported £56 million fee, and he has since become an integral part of the setup, and he was confirmed as the captain in November 2019.

Aubameyang is considered one of the best strikers in the world. He is known for his pace, finishing, and movement off the ball. He also has proven a knack for cutting in on the left side and deftly striking the ball into the far corner from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Aubameyang’s primary position is on the front line, and this reflects in his statistics, especially since joining Borussia Dortmund and his subsequent transfer to Arsenal. Despite this, even his time at St. Etienne was fruitful.

During his time with the French side, he scored 41 goals across 97 appearances, and this is part of what caught the eye of then-manager current Jurgen Klopp. Besides his goals at Dortmund, coming at a rate of 0.66, he also contributed 36 assists.

Aubameyang’s spectacular scoring rate continued into his time at Arsenal, even if there are some concerns over consistency. His career at Arsenal has produced 72 goals in just 111 appearances, which is almost exactly the same as his time at Dortmund. His recent shift out wide to accommodate Mikel Arteta’s formation also means he can chip in with assists and has provided 15 in total for Arsenal across the past 4 seasons.

These statistics show that Aubameyang is a player you can rely on, which is something Arsenal fans have not been able to say about a player since Robin van Persie, or even further back, with Eduardo or Thierry Henry.

Hot Cards

Why has value Increased?

There are several factors that dictate the increase of a soccer card. This can include everything from form to rarity. With Aubameyang, his value has increased because:

  • An established Arsenal player, especially since being awarded the captaincy
  • He has recently signed a new contract, tying him to the Gunners until 2023
  • Proven goalscorer with an exceptional goals-to-game ratio
  • Increased interest in soccer cards
  • Wide appeal of the English Premier League

Prediction for the Future

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not what you would consider a young player, far from it, in fact. This is evident when many fans just getting into soccer and soccer cards are surprised by his age, especially considering his ability to retain his speed, which is one of his primary attributes.

However, this does not mean his value is likely to decrease. As an established Premier League player who is arguably the first name on the Arsenal team sheet when fit, Aubameyang is certain to appear in as many games as possible. The more games he appears in, the greater the opportunity for goals.

Much like his value, our predictions for the future will depend on several factors. These include:

  • Consistency: Aubameyang has already proven to be one of the most consistent players in the Premier League, and there is no reason why this shouldn’t continue
  • Form: Although he can sometimes seem quiet, it only takes a single moment of magic to turn this around, and you can rely on Aubameyang to be involved in a scoring opportunity
  • Club Form: Arsenal performed well in their first Premier League outing, and with promising transfers, they could be a team to look for this season. They are unlikely to win, but they may push to regain a Top Four spot.
  • Honors: This year alone, Aubameyang has won both the FA Cup and Community Shield. More honors could follow this season, both domestic and European.
  • International: Gabon are not exactly world beaters, and his form for his country does not reflect his club form. They could still, however, qualify for the African Cup of Nations set for January 2021.

As an established Premier League player who is a focal-point of a Top Six side, Aubameyang is certainly going to be a popular choice when it comes to soccer cards. He is a proven goalscorer who is unlikely to be rotated often, meaning he will get plenty of chances to prove any doubters of his worth and ability.
